As the Main Contractor for all design and build phases of this project, Southbase’s remit was to deliver purpose-built infrastructure and facilities for 750 students including teaching spaces, an administration area, library, resource areas, hall and special education units, and a versatile outdoor learning and play space.
Southbase recommended many added value initiatives throughout the project in order to facilitate an efficient and transparent process that adhered to Ministry protocols.
Challenges and Solutions
Southbase delivered a full design and build service that also included comprehensive stakeholder engagement to ensure the building met the needs and standards of the various end-user groups.
Working closely with multiple user groups, Southbase sourced the necessary information and feedback to ensure the end result was fit-for-purpose.
The project brief was to create open-plan learning spaces that were large and versatile as well as bright and welcoming. Southbase’s staged interactive approach taken with the Ministry during the design phases of the project meant the team were able to reach an agreement on the GMP.
To facilitate the project pace required by the Client, Southbase initiated a collaboration with a partner fabrication company, Concision, in order to build a free spanning structure utilising exterior componentry. This revolutionary approach fast-tracked the project and set a new construction standard for Ministry facilities that is now being rolled out across other projects.
