Christchurch is on the brink of welcoming a transformative addition to its cityscape — One New Zealand Stadium.

As the final anchor project in the city’s post-earthquake rebuild, this state-of-the-art facility represents not just a significant milestone for Christchurch, but a landmark moment for Southbase.

With a total investment of $683 million, the covered stadium will be the country’s most accessible, inclusive, sustainable, and flexible venue. It will feature a seating capacity of 30,000 for sporting events and accommodate up to 36,000 spectators for large-scale concerts and entertainment events — establishing itself as the premier destination for local and international events in Aotearoa.

Approved in 2020 by both the Government and Christchurch City Council, the stadium is strategically located in the heart of the city, bordered by Madras, Barbadoes, Hereford and Tuam Streets. It has been designed to catalyse further economic development, breathe new life into the CBD, and help reassert Christchurch’s identity as a cultural and sporting capital.

Southbase is proud to be part of the award-winning Kōtui consortium delivering this once-in-a-generation project. Working alongside BESIX Watpac, Fulton Hogan, Warren and Mahoney, Lewis Bradford, Populous and Mott MacDonald, the consortium brings together best-in-class capability, seismic and structural engineering expertise, and a shared commitment to building a venue that will stand the test of time.

As a key delivery partner, Southbase has played an integral role in bringing this vision to life. Our embedded, collaborative approach and focus on precision delivery has helped maintain momentum through the complexities of the stadium’s design and construction.

The project leverages advanced technology and an integrated team model — hallmarks of our approach to managing complex builds. From cutting-edge project planning tools to seamless coordination between stakeholders, we are proud to be setting new standards for construction delivery on a project of national significance.

Once completed in April 2026, One New Zealand Stadium will be far more than a venue. It will be a beacon for Christchurch’s future — a place designed to adapt, scale, and inspire — and a legacy project that Southbase is honoured to help deliver.
