Key Project Facts
Southbase undertook a fully integrated Design and Build brief with the Ministry Of Education to design and deliver a substantial new school facility incorporating Green Star principles within a challenging timeframe.
Built in response to the Ministry’s Innovation Programme, the school was constructed totally from panels pre-made off-site in a local specialist factory. As a result, the build was completed considerably ahead of schedule and has set a benchmark for innovative construction within Ministry
Challenges and Solutions
To meet the challenging timeframes and the rigorous Ministry requirements, Southbase recommended a pre-fabricated construction solution.
Strong existing relationships and experience in this area meant that Southbase were able to engage Concision Panelised Technology to pre-fabricate the exterior envelope off-site at the same time that the steel was being erected on-site. This pre-fabrication approach is now a preferred PPP3 design across Ministry schools throughout the country.
The construction methodology included the use of high efficiency thermal insulation to separate the roof and cladding from the structure, bringing greater value to the overall project.
