The new Mason Clinic E Tu Wairua Hinengaro (Quality of Mind) Building provides 60 beds for the facility and will be constructed to achieve Green Star Level 5 certification.
About the project
Built on the northern end of the Mason Clinic campus, this multi-storey secure forensic mental health facility is approximately 10,000m². Comprising of two 30-bed inpatient wings, a three-storey shared activity and support area, high-security units, secure courtyards, therapeutic spaces and staff training facilities. It is the first high-secure facility built in New Zealand since 1999 and include therapeutic activity spaces and training facilities.
Our approach
Working alongside Te Whatu Ora, Southbase was the Main Works Contractor for this project, delivering within a live operational healthcare campus. Beginning with a nine-month ECI phase followed by NZS3910:2013 Construct Only delivery with Design and Construct responsibility for the façade, fire and seismic systems.
The building has achieved New Zealand Green Building Council Green Star Level 5 certification, representing a great step forward for the facility in sustainability goals.
