Director at Southbase
Simon brings more than 50 years in construction, property development and quantity surveying to the Southbase board.
A registered quantity surveyor, Simon became a partner in a national consultancy at 27. He was later a Senior Director at Davis Langdon until AECOM acquired the business in 2010. In 2013 he co-founded Barnes Beagley Doherr (BBD), which grew into a major New Zealand quantity surveying consultancy, and retired from BBD in 2025.
Simon has negotiated contracts and given expert advice on a wide range of complex projects. He has also reviewed developments for major trading banks, so he understands what financiers and investors look for in a project's viability, funding and risk. On the board, he gives an independent view of cost, contract strategy and project risk.
